Japanese Stone Sulpture by Susumu Ikegami
Stone
Wave
The
placing of this work in front of a highrise building necessitated a certain
scale, which was executed in the form of a bridge. Against the inorganic
rigidities of downtown, the idea was to lend an air of warmth by emphasizing
the natural fissures and organic lines of the stone. Because the structure
was supported with steel H-beams, it was able to withstand the Kobe earthquake.
